Re: In a nutshell . . . . .

Rich, To be perfectly honest, I haven't been detecting much in the last few years.

Last deep silver dime I found was in a Portland school with the stock 9.5" V3i detector at about 6". It was weak and about the limit of that setup. I gave up on the V3i, as Monte and I discovered that at the limit of detection for that machine, it "wrapped around" and a deeper dime registered as iron! Not to mention that its recovery time between targets was abysmal. The coil may have been to blame for the wraparound? The MXT Pro with the 6x8" SEF coil never exhibited that phenomena and has always been just as deep as any detector I've tried - eTrac included.

I've always searched out older parks and older schools, looking for that overlooked silver. However, with the diminishing silver "catch", I became a 'Monte small coil' convert and found silver, when others did not, with smaller coils. I found a silver dime on a club outing (the only one) very close to a cyclone fence with an Teknetics Omega and a 5" DD. I also found a Merc in a Vancouver school, with the MXT Pro and the 4X6" Shooter coil, because the ground was littered with roofing nails and the little coil got me in between them. I'd say my favorite combination was the MXT Pro with the 6X8 SEF coil. Just felt good smiling smiley

I now have the Enox 800, and I think it is the closest thing to a "do everything" detector I've ever seen, but I don't have enough experience with it to make any kind of comment yet. I plan to use the 6" coil most of the time with it, unless "checking out" a large field, or at the beach. Just built a test garden with mineralized sand, and I will checkout the differences between the 6 and 11 inch coils and report back. Unless I'm surprised, I'd say any medium-high end detector with a coil in the 8" range is your best bet for the "deepest silver dime" - in mineralized ground
