New or current Detectors: What works well for "Finding What's Left."

In my mind, this is what it is all about, Finding What's Left.

Is there, or are there, detectors out there that can find a few more items the previous detectors MISSED. Yes, MISSED. What were the previous detectors blind to ? What can the new detectors shine a light on that previously remained in the dark ? I'm not talking about items missed by sloppy coverage, but items masked that the previous detectors COULDN'T SEE. And can they find enough items missed that it is worthwhile for me to spend the money and acquire it ?
Rich, you are 100% correct. If we encounter an old site, or any average Urban site, to include renovation work, it's usually fair game and easy pickings for most coin hunting detectors and naturally for those used in the challenging Relic hunting sites ----> as long as there is not a lot of nails, ferrous debris, or other objects that can mask, or partially mask, a desired Target.

I started hunting ghost towns in early May of '69 and some of the detectors we were using then actually handled iron Nails reasonably well. And when we got good motion-based discriminators in mid '83 the same site we're even more productive due to the ease of operation of the new slow-motion quick-response detector designs.

And at that time there were still a lot of people involved in, and interested in, this great Hobby. That meant a lot more people working the older sites and making quite a few recoveries, and I know my better days we're from 83 until about 1998 to 2003. In that 15 to 20 years the popular work sites definitely got thinned out of most of the easy pickings.

Sure, we can stumble on easy find from time to time, but the better stuff that remains are positioned in amongst and very close to masking targets, generally iron, and in some cases they have been missed because they are back in under some dense brush where folks never put their search coil.

So today it's very simple what we need to do and that is move debris out of the way before we search, use a detector and coil and the most efficient settings to pull keepers out of bad spots that have been partially masked, and then be sure we used the best coil mount it on the best detector for us and work it in a slow and methodical coverage of hey location for the best chance not to miss a good find.

Poor equipment choice, inefficient settings, and poor search technique will all work against us. Oh, we certainly cannot forget that if we want to find what's left, if anything was there in the first place, it boils down to site location, site location, site location. All too often people fail to select a good site in the first place.
