Re: Detector of the Year - EQ800 ! ! ! !

WM6, where are you (part of the country is very important when discussing depth)? I'd like to see you prove your claim that the F75 can detect twice as deep as an Equinox 800. I don't buy it for 1 second.

Pray tell, what kind of depth are you talking about, and in what level of mineralization?

Metal detector technology, as far as depth, has not changed much in several decades. Its is all in the physics. The depth of detection drops off as the 6th root of distance, and increasing mineralization reduces depth as well. Coil size and construction also has a factor in depth.

The F75 is a 13KHz fixed frequency machine. That frequency is chosen as a COMPROMISE frequency between a 'low' (3KHz, best for silver coins), and a 'high' (20KHz for small low conductors like gold rings). The Equinox can run at 10KHz or 15KHz on both sides of your F75. If it is as bad as you say, it would be because of terrible engineering and a poorly produced product. It also would not be selling like hotcakes, and people comparing it to the CTX3030 (or do you think that machine has horrible depth too?)

Oh, and BTW, depth is NOT the most important criteria for a detector today. It is recovery time. Being able to separate targets close together is what is finding that which is left behind.

I don't doubt that the F75 is a good machine, but twice the depth of an Equinox? No way!

The Equinox 800 isn't all that expensive for what it offers.
