Wet or damp soil vs. dry soil?

September 16, 2019 08:26PM
Seems to still be a puzzle as to why this happens. Club member has found 206 silver coins in this general area this year with his Nox 600

"Hi Sven,I'm trying to figure something out.Ive detected this small area many times and have detected it with other people.I have gridded it in every direction and have done it in the rain,my machine loves wet ground.Ok so I've gone over it a few times again and nothing,so I went back for the hell of it and have done well.My question is do you think barometric pressure can effect detectors?theirs something going on that people r missing.Just my 2 cents worth"

Here's how I responded back
Lots of theories. Now I have always found when the ground is damp detectors perform better vs. dry ground. Then other times go over the same area again with another detector and you'll find more that you missed. I hit one school for 2 years, thought I cleaned it out a number of times with different detectors. Then went in with my Pi and 7" coil and just couldn't believe how much was still in there. Then thought I cleaned out again. A Russian AKA Berkut detector arrived and went in there again, the first hour pulled out a gold chain with cross and medallions, then about 6 feet away a really nice gold ring, then the next day about 60 feet away another gold ring. These came from an area I gridded and went over well numerous times. The key to this place was damp or wet ground. We used to hunt a small picnic ground back in the late 70's. About 40-60' square area, all grown up. The place was loaded with coins from the 1880-1930's. For about 2 years we kept going back and finding more. We even mowed and weed wacked the place so it looked like a park again. Because it was only about 10 feet from a major street, other club members found out......oh well.... then about a year later the property was bought and they build a drug rehab building on it. Again the ground was never really dry there. Was just damp enough to grow nice vegetation.

So what is everyone else thinking on this?
