A new Equinox 1200 out for Christmas? I must have missed the parachutist and the parade while I was out detecting. eye rolling smiley

Kidding aside, at the moment, I don't plan on selling my 800. I know others have poked fun at Minelab, their Equinox marketing claims, the eternally slow initial roll out in the market place followed by some troubles with the connection points on the search rod and a software update. I also receive my fair share of friendly ribbing from Monte and OregonGregg regarding my choice to use an EQ800, (among other detectors).

That said, I've spent much of the last 18 months hunting with my EQ800 and have gained a fair measure on confidence in my abilities to use it successfully in the field. I know that you occasion this forum and have opportunity to inspect the posts made by myself and others. The volume and value of my finds are humble compared to many. Yet I enjoy searching for and finding items from the past around old homes, schools, long abandoned mining towns, railroad towns, community gathering areas, swimming holes and the like. They connect me to a time of people and places long since gone.

I know that the 800 doesn't pass your qualification tests, nor does it pass Montes' (which is part of the reason for the ribbing from he and Gregg) But it passes my tests. My considerations are likely different than yours as the places you and I hunt are not the same (opposite sides of the earth). And while I greatly enjoy joining Monte, Gregg and others at outings all over the Western United States, the locations I primarily hunt in my local area differ from the heavily trashed abandoned mining towns, railroad towns and stage stops that Monte and Gregg enjoy exploring so much. Even so, when pressed, I can still eek out some good targets with my 800 due to my familiarity with the detector.

As for all of the extravant claims by some on other forums, all I can say is good for them. I don't know these people nor the places they hunt. And like I said, I don't claim to be any great detectorist myself, just a guy that likes to get out and do some exploring.
