Be selective, yes ....

.. and then put in the time to learn the detector well, match the best coils to it for your needs, and then use it often to keep learning it better. Learn the strong points as well as any weak-links it might have.

Oh, and I disagree with an earlier post you made. Suggesting both Gregg & I put down the EQ-800 and tease you about it. I don't think I have been that bold in giving you a bad time about it. Matter-of-fact, I have been very interested in your time well spent learning the Equinox and sharing what you've learned with readers on these forums. I have seen some of the things it couldn't do all that well in a few tests, by you and others, such as the iron nail laying on top of that thin and small button-front I use. The only two detectors that excel in that test are the Nokta FORS CoRe (which you also own) and FORS Relic. But they also have a weakness or two, as does every make and model detector out there.

I have my select assortment of detectors in my Outfit, and I do my best to learn and understand all their strengths and weaknesses, and I like to get my hands on all the models I can and give them a fair test afield. I don't think I've taunted you that much about the Equinox, and there have been several things about it and performance that have intrigued me enough to get an '800' and give it a good bit of time afield. Naturally I would want to get one with the small 6" DD coil to better fit my needs.

Who knows, you might even get an e-mail or two from me asking for some tips or opinions about one. I have a choice condition Nokta / Makro Anfibio Multi w/2 coils that I ought to sell or trade to get a new or pristine EQ-800 and 6" coil. Then things won't be so bad for you because Gregg will start picking on me!eye popping smiley He did when I had my XP ORX, which I think is a very good detector, or my Omega 8000 or Fisher F-44 which, also, are models that I really enjoy for what they are.

Every detector I own and use have strong points I like them for and for a variety of applications they complement my top-two serious workhorses for my main hunting, and those are the Nokta CoRe and Relic for get-serious Relic Hunting in dense iron debris.
