Yeah, as they say--"the proof's in the pudding" (or rather in the finds).smiling smiley-----It does help to like the thing (detector) though while you are making those great finds.-----Early tests (hopefully) help determine if you are going to like the detector though.------I gotta go have my cup of coffee now!!winking smiley----------Del
There are a number of tests that a detector must 'pass' to earn a spot in my car on a road trip. But in simple terms it boils down to whether I find stuff with it or not.

For me, there are several possible deal breakers, and yes, liking the detector when using it in the field is certainly one of them. That said, I've often wondered how much 'bad detector' (design, ergonomics, construction, etc) I'd be willing to put up with if the detector was making amazing finds each time I went detecting?
