Weight is part of the problem along with balance, and search coils

Have really been one of the things that have annoyed me since 1988. White's was one of the first of the major manufacturers to start using a larger than stock size coil with the 950.

It seems like so many detectors offered now, from beginners models on up have been coming with 10 in or 11 inch and now a 12in search coils, and it's a shame manufacturers have done that. In those earlier days a few people we're just fine with the detector and would have to buy an optional larger size coil, such as a 10 to 12 in, to have a little more coverage or death. Today however, a bigger portion of detector users have to buy an accessory coil that is smaller size.

Age-wise I'm very close behind you, and having a detector that is light, handy and not nose-heavy sure can make a difference and prolong my search time of field. For me, vorx makes the more versatile detector when it comes to using a 5 by 9 and 1/2 or a 9-inch diameter search coil. Very nicely balanced and definitely not nose-heavy.

It's good to hear the Equinox with 6-inch coil balance is well for you. And I'm much the same when it comes to pairing up detector models. I have two Relic units to keep a 5"DD and a 5 x9 1/2 DD mounted, two ORX. To have a 5 by 91/2 DD and round 9 inch DD at the ready. And I have to Bandido II. microMAX and two Silver Sabre microMAX all set to grab and each has a 6in concentric coil mounted.

I like when I have a model that I enjoy using with two coils and can just keep two units on hand prepared to grab as desired.
