Selecting Detector Batteries . . . options.

January 03, 2020 10:14AM avatar
I have 2 detectors that are spec'd by the factory to use AA batteries; my White's MXT All-Pro and my Nokta Fors CoRe.
My other 2 main use detectors, the EQ800 and Deus, both have an on-board rechargeable battery.

Rechargeable batteries: The MXT has a great option, BUT it is a little pricey up front. It is the RNB Innovations 3100 rechargeable battery. I used the Minelab variation of this for years in my etrac. Battery seems to last forever at a near full charge. I have one for my MXT. Takes the worries away of having batteries die at the wrong time. I am a fan.

My Fors CoRe doesn't have an RNB battery solution and therefore I have purchased some Eneloop AA batteries and a smart charger for it. I have 3 sets of 4 batteries that I have charged ahead of time. I keep the two spare sets in a small clear plastic battery holder in my accessories bag.

My Garrett ProPointer AT takes 1-9V battery. It typically lasts most of a season before needing a change. I don't have a rechargeable solution for this. I keep a spare 9V in my bag for it with tape across the terminals to prevent unwanted contact with other metal items.
