Rich, for some folks your idea works.

I a hobbyist has only one detector, or some maybe have two, that use AA batteries, and they are just fine using rechargeables, like Eneloop, that's fine.

But in my Outfit I have 1-CoRe, 2-Relic's, 1 Racer 2, 1-modified IDX Pro and 1-F44 that use AA alkaline batteries. I have some rechargeable batteries around, but I don't care to invest in all I would have to buy to keep all of these units up and ready, or carry and charge the others. I have far more AA powered flashlights around, too, so in my case it's a matter of $$$ and shopping for the most affordable alkaline batteries that provide me the better run-times.

When I can fill a CoRe, Relic or Racer 2 with brand new alkaline batteries for 18½¢ to bring my cost to 74¢ a fill-up to go have a lot of fun, it's worth it to me. My modified IDX Pro will set me back a whole $1.48, and all of these models provide decent operating times with good batteries.
