And some over-the-phone results.

Just a little update to Gregg's post. Not long after Gregg made his drive home, and with handing or watching all the detectors do what they could do in these tests, he gave me a call. We didn't compare every detector I have under my roof, just the two Tesoro's and T2+ and IDX Pro and Racer 2 I am selling and had on my table in the living room, as well as the Simplex +, Vanquish 540 Pro and ORX w/9" X35 coil I brought in from my vehicle, as well as his original Racer.

While talking with him and he mentioned wanting to try his CoRe and Relic with smaller and mid-sized coils, I walked out and grabbed my CoRe w/4.7X5.2 'OOR' DD and Relic w/5" DD and brought them in to let him hear their performance. It sounds a little different over the phone, but with the Nickel on top of the 'Plank Board' between the two Nails, The CoRe and relic with their smaller coils gave some of the best audio responses when swept 'crosswise' of the Nails.

Now, so readers will know, most of the time we search old ghost towns with the Discrimination set just barely low enough to accept Iron Nails.. With the Nickel on top you hear th4e Nails and higher-conductive Nickel. Then, to make the test a little tougher, we increase the Discrimination to where we just barely reject Iron Nails. A final adjustment is to increase the Discrimination all the way to the Ferrous / Non-Ferrous break-point. By then, a lot of detectors lose performance. I try all three Disc. setting on any detector I can. The CoRe and Relic were very impressive.

Oh, don't get thinking a Concentric coil is always going to do well because while talking with Gregg I worked the Plank Board in all directions. With the Nickel on top, and if the Disc. was kept where I have it saved on my CoRe and Relic, not only did I get a terrific East-West or Side-to-Side or 'Horizontal' sweep response with both models, but they could also give a good enough 'lengthwise' response to make it a 'Dig Me!' signal to check it out.

Now he just needs to try his 5X9☼ DD's on those two models.

There were two other detector and coil tests I did with Gregg on the phone I have a Tesoro Silver microMAX w/standard brown 'donut' 8" Concentric coil, and a White's Treasure Pro w/10" DD standard coil. The Silver microMAX uses the ED-120 Disc., like the other two Tesoro's I use or the back-ups I'm selling, and at the minimum Disc. setting, where I always operate them, Iron Nails are rejected. This model gave a god left-to-right and right-to-left sweep response ... BUT ONLY with a 'lengthwise' sweep of the Nails. Nothing at all on the typical 'crosswise' sweep.

And the White's Treasure Pro w/10 DD coil? The Coin & Jewelry mode is chosen with the Iron Disc. setting at the ferrous / non-ferries break-point and it gave absolutely NO Response from any direction on the Nickel coin. The main reason? Circuitry design.

Oh, one more quick demonstration for Gregg to do. I grabbed two rusty bottle Caps and placed one top-up and the other bottom-up on a cardboard box. He used every detector to sweep over each one and noted there was a difference in performance with most models. He could hear the high-tone response from almost every detector with most registering the bottle caps in the Penny to Quarter range, then (without any encouragement) used my E.P.R. technique to quickly classify them audibly.

Then I let him check out my Vanquish 540 w/5X8 DD coil on the Bottle Caps. That got his attention too, and this is certainly a detector I will use for hunting old picnic groves and other places where those crown-type Bottle Caps are in abundance. Most of the responses are terrible and it's easy to ignore most of their signals.
