Oh, one more quick demonstration for Gregg to do. I grabbed two rusty bottle Caps and placed one top-up and the other bottom-up on a cardboard box. He used every detector to sweep over each one and noted there was a difference in performance with most models. He could hear the high-tone response from almost every detector with most registering the bottle caps in the Penny to Quarter range, then (without any encouragement) used my E.P.R. technique to quickly classify them audibly.

Then I let him check out my Vanquish 540 w/5X8 DD coil on the Bottle Caps. That got his attention too, and this is certainly a detector I will use for hunting old picnic groves and other places where those crown-type Bottle Caps are in abundance. Most of the responses are terrible and it's easy to ignore most of their signals.

I can testify to the bottle cap rejection of the Vanquish. I went to a newer ghost town over the weekend with the Deus, Equinox and Vanquish. Started with the Deus 5 x 10 coil and then the Equinox 11" coil with iron bias set higher to knock them out (coil was too big and I don't have the 6") the bottle caps were driving me nuts, they were everywhere along with rusted cans and nails. So there was no way of using the back off the tip method to ID them with the Deus (there is another way to ID them with the Deus unfortunately not on the ORX , but I'll save that for another day).

I knew the Vanquish could reject them so I pulled it out with the small coil for about 2 hours of the hunt. No more bottle caps. But I also noticed my finds rate going down especially smaller stuff like melted lead, small buttons, etc. In fact my finds for the Vanquish in those two hours were a zinc mason jar lid, a large round piece of brass twice the size of a silver dollar, a pull tab (on the surface), A round aluminum lid about the size of a silver dollar, 2 very deep squashed cans from the early 60's (the ones with the tin sides but aluminum top) and a modern zinc penny on the surface. Not one bottle cap was dug.

No coins or tokens were dug with any of the detectors unfortunately, although some nice ones have come from there.

In many ways I agree, however, not totally. Here's why.
