Detector unbalanced? No problemo!

As received, the Teknetics G2+ was 2.5 lbs., but when held with one finger under the control box, the coil (5") hung straight down. For people my age, this is a problem. grinning smiley If a detector is on the heavy side, you only need to let it hang on an extended arm, which doesn't strain you too much. When you have to push it down or pull it up, constantly, this is what creates strain and fatigue on your hand and arm.

So I made a prototype counter balance to see if I could improve it. It now weighs 3lbs. 11oz., still under the weight of the 4 lb. machines.
Just moved the arm cup up one notch, and stuck a wooden dowel in the end of the shaft, that sticks out 6", and screwed fishing weights on to then end of that. If you extended this dowel, you can get away with even less weight due to the increased leverage.

Feels good now.
