I sold my X5 and dont have a beeper and digger machine anymore. Was wondering if the deus without remote would qualify? Headphones only.
Sorry, but no, that won't qualify.

This is a conventional "Beep-and-Dig" type of hunt that would use those detectors that are analog circuitry, non display, and could be either a 1 tone or 2 Tone design such as:

Any Tesoro Electronics detector that does not have a Target ID, but could be a single tone, as most were, or have a two-tone audio such as the Royal Sabre, Golden Sabre Plus, Golden Sabre 2, Pantera, Etc.

It could be older models like a Pillar 1 Reale or 4 Reale, or any of the models from Gold Mountain Technology, or Garretts early treasure Ace series that did not have Target ID. Those examples have motion based discriminators that were really the start of the beep and dig modern discussions.

Included with that could be any earlier detector design that was a conventional BFO, TR or TR discriminator or a VLF/TR-Disc. model such as a Garrett Groundhog for example.

I'm sure that anyone who wants to can acquire one of these types of detectors beforehand, or perhaps borrow one from someone long enough to put in there two hours of hunt time. Personally, I'd enjoy seeing it if we had one whole day set aside to hunt with any of the beep and dig type detectors for half a day, or even three hours which I first had in the post I made. But, if we back it down to only two hours minimum required, that will let a lot of people have enough time to experience just how good these types of detectors can be.

And as always I would encourage anyone using such a device to do so with a small search coil in order to best handle the brush and dense debris we will be encountering. I know my two are that way all the time because I use nothing but a 6 inch concentric coil on them.

In the end, it isn't really using a detector without a display such as putting yours in your pocket, but using some good old-fashioned traditional type detectors that rely on a different detector design concept than what's in use today with our modern detectors. It would be a great way for people unfamiliar with detectors such as a Tesoro to get a really good experience with models that led the way to get us to where we are today.
