You never know who will run the coil over something.

More than 20 years ago I took my brother-in-law, (now ex) to a mid 19th c. house site, lent him a detector and we hunted the yard which had a massive, gigantic old oak tree, known in that neighborhood as the council oak. It is easily a several hundred year old tree and two people cannot link arms around it. Anyway, we only found one good item in the entire yard that day; and it was under that tree. I'm convinced the property had been hunted persistently but not "perfectly" before we showed up. My brother-in-law managed to find a beautiful CSA belt plate that was a rarity 10 in Steve Mulinax's book on CS plates. It was sold for multiple thousands of dollars.. He had never used a detector before, never bought a detector, and does not hunt now. He was at the right place just swinging the coil of my Inca over a target too big to miss. I, on the other hand have thousands of hours hunting, own and have owned probably 20 or so detectors and have found zero CS belt plates, and not even one complete US belt plate, though I have dug partial, broken plates; and lots of buttons and hundreds and hundreds of bullets and other small items. I am still digging cuz it's fun, but finding the best stuff isn't always about being persistent or having the most experience, knowledge, or being better at metal detecting.

Sometimes it almost hurts to loan a detector to someone.

A really good story, Mike. I enjoyed that. Still have the Inca? N/T

Yes, the Inca was, and still can be a Relic Hunter.
