Yep, the same headphones, just a different set of likes / not-likes.

Referring to the wireless Minelab ML-80's, but this applies to any headphone selection and the individual. Oregon Gregg tried my 150 Ohm 'Wasp' or 'Hornet' headphones a few years ago and couldn't stand the audio. He said it was too high and shrill. He's used other headphones and his favorite are the White's Pro Star.

I'll box and mail the headphones today.
Again, I say 'Thank You' very much.

These are the ML80s with the new Equinox. The sound seemed okay but I am wondering if the Killers will sound better.
With the Minelab ML-80's, used with both the V-540 and EQ-800, I found the audio to be satisfactory to better-than-most of the wireless headphones I've used. I have friends who use different Nokta / Makro devices with their various 'red', 'white', 'blue' and 'green' banded versions and they really like them and prefer them full-time. While I admire the build quality of their produces and especially rely on four detector models for different hunting needs, especially Relic Hunting in nasty ferrous debris, I do not care for any of the wireless headphones. They do not 'fit' as comfortably as the ML-80's and their sound is not good at all for my hearing ability.

I just compared the ML80s to the Killer muffs and the ProStars. The ML80s have a smaller pad and opening so maybe that's the problem. At least for my melon. Also the ML80 pad seems to be a lower quality than the Killers or the ProStars.[/b]
The Killer B 'Hornet' and White's 'Pro Star' headphones use the larger-size tank-style ear muff, and their feel and padding is comfortable and encompasses the ear. The ML-80's use the smaller-size ear cup, that's true, but for me and my use I find them very comfortable.

I don't have an issue with the ML-80's ear pad design, but then I pamper all my gear and I don't see where they won't last just fine, at least for me. Plus, I am only using them when I am working with a Minelab Vanquish. Most of my other detectors will make use of the 'Hornet,' 'Wasp' or 'Pro Star' headphones.

Back to the audio report and audio quality. The 'Hornet' and 'Wasp' are using 150 Ohm speakers and the 'Pro Star' use a 50 Ohm speaker, but the audio processing is done with the detector and, plugged-in, they just have a bolder or cleaner audio response than many wireless headphones, or even lower-cost corded headphones. One weak point, for me at least, with the Nokta / Makro wireless headphones is that they use a 32 Ohm speaker, if I recall, and then it becomes a matter of how the sent audio signal is processed. To me, they have a more 'muffled' sort of an audio that is difficult for me and my impaired hearing to enjoy.

The ML-80's have a somewhat louder and more clear audio report than most other wireless headphones. I can put them on and start a day of hunting and everything seems fine. But if I switch to the V-540 and ML-80's after detecting for a while with 'Pro Star' or 'Hornet' headphones, that's when I notice a difference in audio performance. Some might be from the headphones and the speaker impedance used and the particular type of speaker used, but I also wonder if some of it stems from how the detector itself was designed to process the audio. When I get out this afternoon, I think I have the adapter for my ¼" 'Hornet' plug and I'll check them out on the V-540.
