I simply bought nails that closely matched those I initially encountered almost 26 years ago. In that bag with the nails and plastic ties was a US Indian Head One Cent coin, similar to the one I initially found that created the Nail Board Performance Test with the 4 Iron Nails. This is a testing example I put every detector through with different size and type search coils. Quite a few good detector for 'average' urban Coin Hunting are fine for 'average' Coin & Jewelry Hunting environments .... but fall short on performance when taken into some dense Iron Nail and other ferrous-contaminated conditions.

The NBPT is a great way to sort the better Relic Hunting units for Iron debris, from the models that are OK for the average Hobbyist after urban Coins and such with minimal annoying trash. I like to have a few different makes and models around for different applications, but all of my 'get serious' detector/coil set-ups are near perfect performers on the Nail Board.

I hope you enjoy using it, and yes, now your comparisons will be done on a 'standard' level of comparison.

Best of success with your detector picks and the sites you hunt.

Monte

You're right, Mr. Monte ... if someone detects for fun and a slightly polluted place .. an average good detector will be enough for him to find his part of the coin, but other objects of interesting ... interesting shapes.

The problem arises ... when a more experienced detector visits his interesting places ... which are heavily contaminated with iron, or when he returns for several times to detect places that have been previously detected for several years by various detectors .....

Therefore, a detector with above-average, excellent separation or a detector with a large detection depth is needed ... ideally the detector will meet both criteria - it will have both excellent iron separation and excellent detection depth.

And ... Nailboard performance Test can very well evaluate the separation of the detector and thus find the best suitable detectors for detection in such places ...

Now I return to the nailboard test itself ... The coin itself .... One Indian Head cent II from 1892 made me very happy ... so I read its history ...... it is a coin with a high copper content 95% ... and with 5% admixture of tin and zinc ....

Mr. Monte ..... Thank you for your wishes .... And I ..... I wish you a nice experience from detection, and a lot of success ...

ps .I did the first experimental nailboard performance tests with Tesoro Mojave and I can say ... I'm glad I bought a 5.75 "CC coil for this detector ....
