Sod Buster,

I do not know the answer to your question, at least directly.

I do know that when I have saturated soil conditions in my area, that conductive targets will read higher on the scale AND those wet rusty corroding nails will start lighting up as well.

As for the surface eddy currents on a bent item like a coin. . . . how far does a surface need to be bent from 'flat' that there would be more than 1 perceived surface where an eddy current could form? I don't know.

I know that when I have stacked quarters or dimes or pennies that I will get a higher reading than i get if there is just 1 coin present. With 2 coins there are now 4 surfaces, heads / tails, on which eddy currents can form. Plus there is more mass between the two targets if they are physically in direct contact. I'll have to do some experimentation with this when I get back from Nevada.
