I used the MXT, MXT Pro, M6 and most other White's detectors that I have enjoyed with the 6½" concentric coil, and seldom used any other coil. It was just a rare occasion and, typically, all of those detectors balanced reasonably well. They still do for many people, but due to my age and health limitations and the injuries I've had to my right shoulder and neck, I have had to trim my outfit down two models being lighter weight and more comfortable.

Now you ask about a brand new M6 for $500 and what my thoughts are. Well, I guess they fall into one of two categories.

Category 1 would be for those who are especially White's aficionados and just happen to favor their products, the durable build design in the metal housing, and like knobs and toggle switches, and are comfortable with the performance they get out of a model that has proven to be reliable.

Category 2 would be those who may or may not like White's products, but they are a little bit more open two more modern design as well as some more modern/up to date features.

Those in the Category 1 would just have to make a decision to spend $500 on a brand new M6. Those in Category 2, considering the $500 to spend, could consider many other options on the market today at or near that price point.

That could include models like the Fisher T2 classic or T2 Plus, the Nokta / Makro Racer 2, the Minelab Vanquish 540, White's own MX 7 or even hold out for the Garrett Apex. Personally, of the models I just mentioned, I would take any of them before an M6.

And let's not forget the fact that the M 6 is a product from a defunct company therefore, even if brand new in the box, it's still a discontinued or former offering. That means you could shop for used detectors that would be new in a box or as new condition, or even shop for detectors that retail for under $500

There is a lot that can be had for $500 or less, such as a Nokta Impact like I just sold this past week, or an XP ORX package I have for sale right now, or you could order a brand new Nokta / Makro Simplex Plus for around $300 and have a lot more detector with adjustments and performance options then what you get with an M6.

So if I saw an M6 advertised as brand new for $500 I would only consider that a good deal if I could pick it up for around $250. On today's market most detectors are rather competitive at very good prices like I just suggested. White's products, other than the MX7 and MX Sport, have been overpriced for quite a while.

J.t., you're partly correct on the 6000 Pro XL but wrong on the M6.
