Hi Monte,
Other than a couple of flagship destination parks most areas are open to detect.
Up here in Canada I kind of follow a don’t ask don’t tell approach, if a park employee or such gives me the boot I pack up and move on but most are fine with detecting as long as you don’t leave a site visibly disturbed/damaged.
