Re: Coil height, my coil height varies according to conditions.....

I like to check individual targets by raising the coil height while maintaining constant short sweeps or wiggles over the target. How the audio fades as the coil gets higher or just maintains the same level of audio and then suddenly drops out tells me a lot about a suspected iron target. Then if your detector has a true threshold based static all-metal mode, you can trace out the shape of the target. Certain Tesoro machines are excellent at these techniques.

If you are in a very iron littered location a person can just raise the coil a couple of inches higher than your normal coil height, which may be an effective tool in some instances.
