Wow Rick,

Sounds like a fantastic location to hunt. I've found my 800 to be extremely versatile. One of these days I hope to venture over to England for some old site hunting and see what OLD really looks like.

I have been detecting a roman villa site since 2006 and this was not a normal villa dwelling but was a trading villa for 400 years that the romans had been in the UK,i guess the site extends to just over 30 acres+ or - and the coinage that we have found over this time duration runs into a 5 figure amount. What makes this possibly the hardest site that i have ever detected is the fact that it is basically black sand that one would find in say beach locations but is about 70 miles inland.

Basically single freq machines can only penetrate maybe the top few inches or so,so the only machines that will work are multi freq ones like the Equinox and other Minelab machines as well as obvious Pulse machines but we have found the best method even by using these machines is still by using stock or smaller coils as this method works best and can give you the desired depth to get down as coinage and artefacts are 1700-200 years old and have also sunk slightly deeper and also ploughing has got deeper as well and brings up some more finds.I will say that the finds are not as prolific as when we 1st started detecting this site but they do still come up.

Beach detecting is not really my thing as i live so far inland its a few hours trip each way and just dont get the same buzz as detecting farmland etc.

It's YOU that makes the difference.

The Results →→→ 7 detectors take on a 3"X4"X1¼" rock.

Just some reminders and why I like having a versatile team of detectors.
