UtahRich, I generally agree with you.

I owned one Equinox 800 w/6" DD coil, and I have owned 3 of the ORX models, with both the 5X9½ DD and 9" X35 DD coils. I did not have either of those models long enough to put in 'extensive' hunts in iron contaminated sites, but I did work them both in three of the four ghost towns in my area ... mainly to learn how well they handled typical iron trash in them. I concluded this:

1.. I felt the ORX, young sibling to your Deus, gave me very good performance in both dense iron nails as well as rusty tin debris, as long as I was using the best Frequency and Reactivity choices, and I favored it with the 5X9½ DD HF coil.

2.. I found that the Equinox 800, also with the right settings and using the 6" DD coil, did a "better-than-average" job when I worked in more rusty tin.

3.. I also determined that my Vanquish 540 Pro Pack unit, using the 5X8 DD coil, could match, or even do slightly better, classifying rusty tin than the EQ-800.

Conclusion: I liked the V-540 more and preferred its simplicity, so I parted with the Equinox 800. A good detector, but I just didn't need it for the hunting I planned to do more of. The ORX I also liked, even more than the Equinox, but I parted with it, too, because I am changing up the type of hunting I plan to do, and because I have an ample supply of detector models on-hand (and more coming) that I really enjoy using, so I didn't really need the ORX as much, either.

The ORX and Equinox 800 are both very good detectors and provide a good amount of in-the-field performance for many applications.

In my case, I just felt better about making adjustments in my overall detector group that didn't include either of them, but I am hanging on yo my Vanquish 540 for times when it can be advantageous.
