I would have lost money if I had bet on your answer Monte -

Sometimes you are unpredictable. grinning smiley I would have bet you would encourage having a test garden in one's yard to check for proper operation / function / performance of a detector - much like your example of the poorly performing CZ-? detector. And I would have lost. sad smiley

While I have old areas that i am very familiar with that I use in testing real world performance of a newly acquired detector or checking a software upgrade, the nearest is at least a half hours drive away and the longest an hour. Whether it is a recently acquired detector, or a software update (like those being offered by Nokta / Makro, Minelab), being able to do some quick checking in a "backyard coin garden" seems like a good idea. My idea of a backyard coin garden isn't a full blown detector laboratory where I try to match every possible target situation. Just a simple test garden with several common targets, both good and bad, at different depths. Simplicity. Rusty nail, square tab, round tab, corroding zincoln, copper penny, dime, quarter. nickel and a difficult deep good coin target, like a dime.

Well, the next time I meet Gregg, I guess that I'm going to add some onion rings to the steak dinner I owe him on the lost bet for oldest coin at the Wells Outing.

'Test Samples' are good. A 'simple' test plot isn't bad. --- Just as long as the tester knows *****
