Re: A little Monte Roasting . . . . . grinning smiley #4

Twas the end of a season
And all through his house,
Not a beep from a target,
Not a peep from a mouse.

The coils and search rods
were on tables and chairs,
on desktops, on couches
fronts porches and stairs.

Some cardboard from Turkey
With stamps for the Post,
And mail from Australia
With gold nuggets to boast.

A look at the wall,
showed detectors galore,
in the closets and bedrooms
and strewn on the floor,

An old shoebox held,
some old coins and some nails,
and a list of detectors
he sure ought to sell.

A worn binder was open,
Across Monte’s lap,
Full of coins and old tokens
And superfluous . . . . . . stuff.

Monte was dreaming
Of lost days of yore,
While his eyelids were resting
And he let out a snore.

A knock at the door
and a ring of a bell
And Molly a barkin'
at the stranger from . . . heck.

It was OregonGregg
with a White's hat in hand
and a new fangled V 3
and a big can of spam.

There to cook breakfast
and then hit the road
for ghost towns and tokens
and treasures untold.

With roadmap in hand
and a case of the Dew
Ole Gregg and now Monte
towards Portland they flew.

. . . . . .

On Fors CoRe and Relic
On Boomer and Molly
How long has it been since
we've seen Monte so Jolly ?

The Freeway and cities
blew by oh so fast
Before you could blink
it was Portland at last.

And there at the exit
sat zincoln all smiles
with a bright polished V3
and a few extra coils.

To the Park they did drive
and when Monte got out
he looked at the V3
and started to shout.

Then zincoln he pointed
way off over there
towards the land of the barbers
and gold coins to share.

Ole Monte he strode
with the V3 in hand
he was off to find gold
whether coin or a band

Through the ivy and trails
in the deep dark abyss,
Gregg hustled his keister,
for this was not to be missed.

Monte stopped in his tracks
and peered in the trees
The ivy was creeping
well up to his knees.

Well into the bushes
there stood an old well
with bare dirt surrounding
an old wooden rail

But his leg caught a snag
and his progress was stopped
and his vision of gold coins
and silver went pop!

He awoke on the couch
back home in old Vale
with a headache the size
of the V3 from . . . . heck

Molly was a staring
and Gregg had a grin
cause Monty was dreaming
of detecting again.
