I had to look it up, and go easy on those VW Buses.

I talked with Gregg yesterday and he said it was in the early '70s. I knew it was a while back, but thought it was late '70s or early '80s, but a quick check on my phone indicated it was 1971. That sure seems like a long, long time ago.

My '58 VW Bus only had the front bench seat as the back was totally empty and it was used to deliver organs and such at my dad's music store. It had been painted over many times, and with different colored signage but was white when I got it in '67 to head back home to Utah or college. Dinged up from the inside due to all the transported things banging on the bare-metal walls, and in '68 I wanted to get it sanded down to repaint it. Working the hand-sander on all the sides with all the high-spot dings, and going through multi-layers of paint left it looking a bit 'decorative.'

I was never a 'long-hair' but the appearance of my VW Bus project left me looking like I was part of the 'In Crowd' I guess because it drew the attention of a lot of cars that were also decorated ....... with red lights on top. I only had one stop for a 'discussion' with a man-in-blue that resulted in nothing but a nice chat. I parted with that rig when Uncle Sam invited me to a party and a one year vacation over in the jungle zone, so I never had the multi-hued bus around when i returned home. I did hear that a longer-haired fellow ended up with it so I hope he enjoyed my sanding job.

Back to the Coke commercial. I had a little hearing loss before I went in the service, but an experience with five incoming mortar rounds that hit very close one night had guys out looking for the medic who had been killed or injured .... but wasn't .... but it did impair my hearing. Since '82 the military told me I was deaf each year when I took a Summer Veteran Hire job at Hill AFB. .... and it's worse now. So since 1970 I have had a lot of difficulty hearing, especially certain frequencies or pitches and that makes it difficult for me to hear some people if they talk too softly, or too briskly. And I usually can't understand the words people sing in most songs. Thus, yesterday evening when I got on my phone and checked out the Coke commercial song from about 49 years ago .... I muted the TV and listened closely and finally, after almost half-a-century, heard just what it was they were saying / singing in that commercial.

It's Gregg's fault because I never would have checked it out if he hadn't made the forum post or referred to a date in the phone call.
