Monte thank you for putting this evaluation together. The results are interesting and in some cases surprising.
I am always evaluating detectors that interest me, and for my own benefit. Through the years i get asked about what I test and how I test them so I thoughts I'd put out some time and effort ... and pre-holiday shopping budget ... and just to this for models that are acquirable for $550 or less. One excellent reason is because my own personal detector outfit is mainly comprised of model in that price range. Another is because there are some really excellent bargains out there today of model that are well known and proven, both newer and some that have been around a while.

Also I really appreciate you highlighting the dealers at the beginning.
Here on AHRPS we have regular postings by an active detector user who also does what he can as a Dealer to help others, I acquired several detectors and some accessories from Joel last yer and then again this year. He does a great job for the consumer, trust me.

A the good folks at Detector Electronics have provided excellent service for me for a long time. They are not just friendly and honest about the products they carry, but they are very reasonable and I've never had an issue with shipping of any products. Just a bigger box this time holding all the detectors and extras I purchased.

After reading the results it makes me curious as to how the popular highend detectors would stack up in the same test scenarios.
You might be surprised at how some of the current "high-end' detectors would NOT perform in these test Scenarios. I've owned several and borrowed a few. But some could do OK, but at a greater cost than many folks care to spend. Friday afternoon I sat at my computer for a while just paying off my three credit cards that racked up some hefty purchases the last month or so. Now I need to get a lot of detectors sold, although there is one model possibly two, that I'll likely hang onto an keep i my Daily-Use Team of detectors while I make some adjustments.

Honestly, after using and comparing many higher-cost detectors in the pas 24 months, I have determined that I am not likely to buy a another detector above the mid-price range of models like I just evaluated, unless it is a higher-end, SMF morel with able frequencies. Additionally, it has to also provide very solid build quality and, naturally, show some very impressive in-the-field performance. Especially since it will be going up against some very proven performance I currently use as shown in the above results.
