Yes indeed, but first I tried to make sure it was the detector.

Been at it quite a while, used more detectors than most could imagine, some didn't hang around too long, others for a while, and several favorites are still in use and bound to stay. As some stated below, I have things I look for in a detector, such as:

• A comfortable, well-balanced design

• Performance to tackle several tasks I am likely o encounter

• Functional adjustment features that are in an easily-adjusted design

•; Search coils, standard and/or optional, that work well, balance well, and serve my needs

The important thing is not to be too quick to make a judgement call. If a particular model falls short on these in a bad way, I let someone else enjoy it. But I always try to use a model as much as needed to learn a model and know any strengths and weaknesses and factor those in when I make a judgment call. I like to own more than two or three or four detectors, and have since late '71, just because enjoy some differences. That way I have an assortment to pick from that complement each other to better match a detector and coil for working different tasks.

As for the Simplex +, I own and use two of them. They provide impressively good performance, feature a lot of good mode choices and adjustment features, and I never have any issues picking modes or settings. I use the 2.77 upgrade in both, adjusted the Discrimination I like to use for each of the four Disc. modes, the Iron Audio Volume I like for three Disc. mods, the other settings, then I am good-to-go. For most applications I hunt in Park 1 mode until or unless I decide I want a different mode, but my settings are already there and I just set out to enjoy-the-hunt.

My guess is you just need to relax, determine what settings you would like to use for each mode while relaxed at home. Don't rush it, and you'll know that each mode is set-up as you desire. Then, get out hunting. Don't tinker around too much while out having fun, just start up in the mode you want to use, and enjoy using the Simplex +.

I'm not into high-end models or units with too many adjustments even though some of my detectors do offer a lot of features, to include the Simplex +. Looking at my current favorite detector list below, in brand order, you'll note an F5, Apex, V-540, CoRe, Relic, Simplex +, Bandido II µMAX, Silver Sabre µMAX and XLT.. Nothing I consider complex, and all of them work quite handily for places I grab them.
