Don't use that river to divide East from West.

It's kind of funny how a lot of people didn't appreciate the size of the USA back when I was in the service. I was a native Utahan who had lived in Oregon also, ten years each state, and when I was at Ft. Sam in San Antonio, several guys were talking about being "Out West." They were from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and one of the Carolina's. I had to butt in and let them know they still were not "Out West" and I had to travel all the way 'East' to get to Texas. No cell phones or computers for them to quickly check back in '69, but I told them to find a map. They were in the 'Middle Sates' and were only half-way to "Out West."

To show how uneducated a lot of the 'big city' Easterners were, one of them spoke up when he asked where I was from and said, that's really way Out West, you must still have Indians riding around on horseback out there. Do they still shoot arrows at people? And trust me, he and another fellow Easterner discussed it and were very serious. They were stuck in the TV Western image of being "Out West" and thought it was current reality

I admit that most of Texas and Kansas and Missouri and Oklahoma and other 'Middle States" I have visited do have a 'Western Feel' to them, but location wise, they still are not way out this way. A better dividing point might be the Rocky Mountains instead of the Mississippi River. Just a suggestion from a true 'westerner.'winking smiley
