No, not quite correct.

Very well said Rich I would agree 100% I got the same impression. I think the only reason he keeps the vanquish is to show in his style tests that it doesn't do as good lol

I bought the Vanquish 540 Pro Pack initially because it interested me and I wanted to check it out.

I used the V-540, mainly with the 5X8 DD and a bit in a couple of wide-open areas to get to learn it, know it, and find some of the glitches it might have (and it dopes just as almost every detector does) in order to see what can be done to handle the design and get th most out of it for the different hunting tasks I usually enjoy.

I've kept the V-540 around because I do like it for some applications, and because it is a light and comfortable detector to use. It has its strengths, too, like many detectors will have, so I put it to good work where I like it.

As for the future and the Vanquish 540 and my limiting opportunities to get out and enjoy this sport like I have for a long time, it might stay around, or I might let it go. It partly depends on the performance I get with accessory coils on a couple of other detectors, the Apex and Simplex +, and as of today the V-540 is n't looking quite as bright as it was a few days ago. I compare 5X8 DD's and a 5X9½ DD side-by-side, and they all have some strong points and weak points. Then when I get a smaller 5" DD, coming available soon for the Apex and Simplex +, that just might be the key to some more trimming of my current detector group.

Oh, one other deciding factor has to do with Ground Balance. I will have some models I like that have an uncontrollable GB for the Disc. mode, but I do have some that allow operator GB control w/o negative impacts on the Disc. mode. The latter is handled by my Bandido II µMAX, Silver Sabre µMAX and F5. So as I thin out some of my detectors I am being picky-and choosy as to how they work and what functions they have that work in my favor ... w/o in-the-field glitches ... as well as all available and useful search coils.

If I set out for a couple of day's detecting jaunt, and had good weather, I'd load a 6" Concentric coil, a 7" Concentric coil, a 5X8 DD coil and a 5X9½ DD coil ... and the detectors currently attached to those coils ... and not have a care or concern regardless of where I traveled to hunt.cool smiley(It's clear, cold, but very sunny outside right now.)

No particular reason.

Very correct about some of the Minelab behavior.
