Hey Roger,
And just for being thorough I checked the coin and jewelry modes of my Vanquish 540 -
Coin Mode -
With "high" iron bias -
small jar of mixed clad - Jumps between -7 and +25 giving a clipped positive response when signaling 25.
Large jar is -7, -8.
With "low" iron bias -
small jar of mixed clad - hits from 23 thru 30 giving good positive response,
large jar comes in at a solid 15, 16.
Relic Mode -
With "high" iron bias -
small jar of mixed clad - hits between 23 thru 30 giving a bit of a clipped positive response.
Large jar is -7, -8.
With "low" iron bias -
small jar of mixed clad - jumps from 23 thru 30 giving good positive response,
large jar comes in at a solid 15, 16.
Equinox 800
The 800 in my stock settings hit both small and large jars of coins clean and clear. I was able to replicate the above results by increasing the FE2 iron bias setting from my normal of 2 to 3,4,5. As the iron bias value increased just 1 increment to 3, i started getting just a bit of studdering over the large jar, moreso at 4 and gone at 5. Changes to the recovery setting made no difference.
And my ground balance setting made no difference. I ground balanced over my concrete basement floor at 5. I increased it in large segments up to a max of 99 and decreased to minimum of -9. The only value I found that made a change to the response was the iron bias. Target ID values were the same as the vanquish for the large and small jars.
Anyway, kinda fun messing around with settings. Gotta run.
