XLT, MXT's, MX-5 and MX-7 with Concentric coils. I also had concentric's on a Teknetics Omega 8000 and Fisher F44 and F5 when they also responded well on my silver stack of 5 halves on top of a silver dollar. And the question you have to ask if your detector does get it or does not get it, is why. What is one feature all those models just mentioned have in common?
I can narrow that down by asking what one feature other than sensitivity, discrimination, pinpoint, arm cup, multiple rods, foam hand grip, visual display, or other things? They have a Ground Balance control that does affect the motion discriminant mode, whereas many other detectors have a GB for the motion-based discriminant mode that is preset, as in fixed, or functions in software with a limited range of adjustment.
There are a lot of top-end defectors that can perform very well for most Coin & Jewelry hunting needs, and even do pretty well at a lot of Relic Hunting tasks, and hit well on single targets we are likely to encounter. Bigger size and high conductivity Target's like silver halves or silver dollars, that might more commonly be lost.
But their ground balance circuitry is more controlled internally, a preset or software-controlled design, that essentially has a too positive ground balance in the motion discrimina mode, and the result is an encroachment on the high conductivity targets. It gets kind of interesting how Engineers design a detector, such as the Fisher F44 or Teknetics Omega 8000 or Fisher F5, that all have a functional ground balance in the disc. mode and a design that lets them hit on the silver stack. But you can take a top end T2 series model, and it won't. It has automated ground grab, that they call fast grab, plus manual ground balance, that function well in they all metal mode. But their discriminate mode relies on an internally set ground balance.
Brian, instead of your V3i, grab your MX Sport and mount the 6" concentric coil. Use a Coin & Jewelry program and accept from -10 on up. Turn it on and sweep over the silver stack. Then ground balance and sweep over the silver stack. You're likely to get a very good hit that reads, probably, 94
Then don't make any changes to the settings, just changed over to your 7" Detech DD coil and do the same thing. Turn it on and sweep over the silver stack, then ground balance and sweep over the silver stack. The only changes made has been a search coil Exchange. Report the audio and visual response.
If you have two more silver halves to stack on top, that would duplicate my short stack, and make sure they're not in a card or sleeve but are all stacked together, metal on metal.
