Since Compass Electronics went out of business about 30 years ago, there are quite a few people who have been in this great Hobby for a while now who used to use Compass detectors. And there are still a number of us who have an old Compass in our detector outfit, and some still use them regularly or at least periodically.
They had a good 3 filter unit out a dozen years before White's did with their MXT, and they also had some of those earlier top-end models with more adjustment features with their Challenger Series. Sure would have been good if they had the money to have stayed in the game and lasted to the present. The combination of money, marketing and manufacturing smarts with good engineers all needs to come together for a detector maker to satisfy the market.
Towards the end they didn't advance and were using old components from the earlier days rather than tighter tolerance to provide better quality and better consistency.
But the Compass forums are a nice place to meet up, virtually, and discuss some of the models that worked so well in their era.
