Rich, I know what you're saying and in some ways I agree. Exploring new and different places can be amazing in many ways. For me there is an ample amount of diverse and unknown right here in the USA that I would like to get to know. A few foreign locations do interest me, such as the UK or Australia, but not much else.
As for flying, I have always had a fear of heights. Add to that the fact I am not in control. Plus the times I've been on diverted flights due to:
* Electrical issues, twice.
* Smoke
* Landing Gear issues
* Severe weather
* Engine failure / flame-out
These all combine with my fear once off the ground. As for boats and water, I don't swim. Tried to learn, but can't open my eyes in water, I didn't come with gills, and it's more of a claustrophobic feeling. My mother and I both easily sink in the Great Salt Lake rather than float. So from the time I was a kid, any attempts for me to learn to swim or enjoy being in water, just never worked out. I admire those who enjoy flying or swimming and diving, but they just are not things in my book of enjoyment.
I'm glad you do, and others, because there are places to visit and see around the globe but I'm very happy to confine my areas of interest and enjoyment to those I can maneuver to while staying on the ground

All I got to say Is that you should never have traveled with Indiana Jones. That really leaves a mark you're not likely to forget.
How do you feel about snakes?
