Work the skid plate away from the coil itself around the perimeter of the outer and inner rings. Sand and debris caught inside the skid plate can make things a little resistant. I treat it like those tupperware storage containers used in the refrigerator. Once removed, rinse out all of the sand and stuff that has accumulated inside. Wipe dry and replace.
If you have a spare coil, try using it and see if the trouble resolves.
The MXT was a favorite of Monte's at the ghost towns for a while, he is likely to chime in here to talk to you about settings, modes and such. I've called him about such things and he's typically slipped on the Sherlock Holmes had and enjoyed the challenge.
