Re: shovels

You're right Sven. They don't care. Plus, that's what they see on TV / Utube video.
Get a shovel, dig out a big scoop and throw it to the side, kick it or bash it with the shovel to retrieve your treasure.

I stopped at a school yard one day when I saw someone detecting that I'd not seen before. I pulled into the parking lot
and watched this guy, an older guy, maybe older than me, swinging the detector coil frantically, 5-6 inches off the ground like he's
chasing off flies with the coil. I watched him for awhile and didn't think he would find even a garbage can lid swinging like he was, but I was wrong and he did finally get a signal. He got his shovel, dug a big clod from the ground, threw it on the side and began thrashing it with the shovel until there was nothing but scattered dirt and grass. Then he got out his pointer and started looking for the treasure. What a mess. Probably got himself a zincoln. I left, to angry to talk to anyone and I couldn't watch anymore. I was not in a mood for giving "educational instruction" that was not offensive.

The hand-digger tool looks fine for a park.
