I seen a lot of people make craters including friends of my mainly because they have a difficult time pin pointing the target. For shallow hunting, targets that are in range of the pin pointer I simply keep the pointer straight up and down and away from the surface to start and work my way closer as I narrow it down. Majority of the time i'm spot on and can just pop the target out.

Early spring when the grounds are wet a hand digger works good but when I cut a flap I use the tip to push the grass out of the way so I am not clipping it and not leaving a mark. This can be done with just about any digger and not just the ones I make.

My foot digger I only use in fields or woods where leaving a mark isn't critical and I am doing deep searches.

In general I think people struggle with pinpointing with their machines. The non motion pp on them are less than accurate and a better practice is to wiggle off the tip of a dd coil or criss cross over the target. I rarely miss my mark that way.

The hand-digger tool looks fine for a park.
