Let's understand me and my thinking of detectors and challenges.

I'm getting the sense that Monte isn't so interested in any sort of show down in Wells Town, or any ghost town, for that matter.

Wrong! I am definitely into a "show-down" in Wells, or any ghost town, or any site folks hunt. Can I compete on the Outing? No, not like I could when I was able to move well and was in better health, but I still 'compete' because there is always a 'challenge'. That's why I have been enjoying this great sport for over half-a-century because whenever I turn on any detector at any site, I am facing the 'challenge' of learning more, improving my technique and detector understanding, and I am always 'competing' with myself to try and do better than I expected. So I am always 'competing', just with myself.

As it is, I am trying to get back to using a cane so I can do at least a little hunting close to a vehicle, even though my hunt-time will be short. I just have to be careful and not fall.

As for OregonGregg and I, Gregg's hoping we're both successful using the CoRe on the outing, BUT, he does want to whoop me upside and downside when it comes to finding the oldest US coin (with a date). Not much drama really.

And I am encouraging your 'personal' challenge, and have been hoping to get folks using more of the detectors they have for at least a days-worth of detecting. That is why I put out the 'challenge' to do just that, and if you (anyone) hunt with any brand for a day, you get your name in for a Random Drawing from only those who used that brand. "Winner?" They get a $50 bill right out of my pocket. Naturally, I hope to get lucky on at least one of the drawings, but it is all random.

If there is any drama, it would be that sorry bunch of detectors that Monte's put together as his current 'detector arsenal'. What IS with that? eye popping smiley I've known Monte a long time and this has to be a low point for him. tongue sticking out smiley Surely a family member has been gifting Monte with detectors he wouldn't buy if it was the end of the earth, and he just doesn't want to hurt their feelings by leaving a gift off his detector Wall of Fame. That must be it. I'm sure he's embarrassed something fierce.

Anyway, Monte loves to buy, try and sell detectors, so I'm sure he will rectify this sorry situation - like before Nevada. winking smiley

Yes, since '68 I have enjoyed buying detectors to use them and learn them, and since late '71 I have always had multiple units in my outfit because I like the way some work, and I like the fact that some do things different from others based on the site and application. I will admit I have owned too many at times, and when I spent last November and half of December in the hospitals in Texas, I had time to analyze all that I had, those that I wanted, and some that interested me, but I set a new limit on myself to not own more than 10 detectors ... if that.

Today, I am at that limit of 10, but two of them are the same circuitry, just in a different brand, name, and decals. I have parted with some of my very favorites, one of which you own, and due to health I am thinking of letting another go, and due to frustrations for what I do I am thinking of agreeing with you and might sell-off another one.

While I like the 5-Tone of the Apex or 3-Tone of the Relic or Racer 2 (or CoRe), or F75+ for many hunt sites, I m still very comfortable with the single-tone Tesoro's or using a 2-Tone audio, especially in dense Iron Nails. I liked that on the CoRe and Relic, and enjoy using it on the Relic, Racer 2, F75+, and my Time Ranger Pro and F19 Ltd. are 2-Tone only, if accepting some of the ferrous range.

So I am pleased with what I have and use, or most of them, and ready for whatever detecting I might be able to do in the future. I think everyone should be pleased with the units they own and get out and use them often.

My family hasn't given me any detectors, and actually it has been the other way.
