The Equinox and the Deus 2 can both operate in SF mode with a wide selection of frequencies. You honestly don't need any other detector. That is what draws people to these units, not to mention their reputation. There isn't an environment that these SMFs can't work in.
George, It could be
Simultifreqaphobia (fear of simultaneous multifrequency) or
Angerfreqafitus (detector frequency anger disease).
Kidding aside, I think there is an effort to avoid SMF at all costs here (literally). That is certainly his personal choice. Monte has a token SMF in the house. (Vanquish) I have a token detector as well. My Nokta CoRe. It is my 'kick ass' ghost town detector with itty bitty coil on the end. It isn't my first choice for general detecting because I only have the 5" OOR coil for it. But it is a high end single frequency detector from that era when the F75's were going for more than $1k depending on the flavor you picked. The CoRe retailed just UNDER $1k depending on Regular or Pro Pack.
Joel and Andrew and Roger and Brian will tell me the Deus or Deus 2 will match or better my CoRe in the Ghost Town trash. And they're right.

I have a good amount of time behind the controls of both. However, with limited detector time available, and being a believer in the saying,
A jack of all trades and master of none, I find the simplicity and effectiveness of the CoRe refreshing. Four AA batteries and my set of Jimmy Sierra Headphones, a lesche digger, my Garrett pro-pointer AT and i'm in business.
So what does all of this mean? It means I'm a SMF guy, through and through. Monte is a dyed in the wool Single Frequency guy through and through. And does it matter? Not really. Some guys still swear by the old Revolvers and will give you a half-dozen reasons why they are superior to a semi-automatic. Revolvers are slow, limited in capacity, but John Wayne still carries one in all the old cowboy movies, so it's all good.
