Test wasn't honest? Which 100% implies an attempt to deceive. What, deceive ourselves in the detector(s) that we selected to use among those we own? You're unbelievable.
Well, you are certainly entitled to an opinion. I will say that you could 100% duplicate the results for yourself, as could anybody BECAUSE of the decision to use a US nickel. It makes for a uniform target that you, me, or any other tom, dick or harry can do. Selecting a gold ring to use for each depth? That would require four identical gold rings (10", 12", 14", 16") to provide uniformity. And would be impossible to duplicate by anybody else at their own places. So i give a thumbs down to your suggestion.
Despite the doubts you have about the wisdom of selecting a nickel, it proved to be an accurate representation of the abilities of the detectors that were brought out to the lake over multiple trips. So, in effect, the test was successful, as were our field results.
