The nickel tests were done to see how deep you can detect a gold ring in the sand.
That is my point and why I feel the test is deceptive. Not that it didn't show how deep a machine can detect a nickel but rather because nickels and gold ring have similar response so many people automatically assume just because a machine can detect a nickel at 16" that it will do the same on a gold ring.
The test is suggestive and deceiving.
Want to prove otherwise take a 14-18K gold ring (not rose gold) and use that as a test in the salt. While your at it toss a GPX 5000 in the mix.
Further my point do an air test between a gold ring and a nickel on any of your IB machines and see the difference. Toss in salt water and drop off will be much more.
FYI My test garden is where I hunt. I learn more in the wild....
