Have small coils fallen completely out of vogue Monte?
There's a 6" round for the 800/900, but the 800/600 has been out for 5 years now. The subsequent vanquish has the 8"x5.5" as the smallest and it seems that this is also the smallest 'new' coil size being offered on the Manticore as well. The announced but not here yet X-Terra also sports the V8X, which is 8"x5.5", as its' smallest coil. A trend here?
XP has their 9" Round Coil for the Deus 2 and the 9.5"x5" HF coil for the ORX and Deus 1. Both the ORX and Deus 1 are older designs. But there is an inherent limit to size with XP's design of battery, wireless comm's and coil controls all in one so i don't have expectations here.
I believe Garrett's latest design, the ACE Apex, has the 8"x5" Ripper coil as the smallest. All their other small coils are associated with detectors that have been on the market for several years or more. Same with Fisher/Teknetics.
Is the 4.5" / 5" sniper type coil something in our rearview mirror? I better hang onto that CoRe w/OOR i have.

That seems to be the trend going forward. If this Kruzer I just recently got, works out, then I might just get another and replace my Racer 2's with them. The Core with my Racer 2 made a nice combo. For those days I couldn't get my head into listening to all the iron etc I would just grab my Racer 2 and use the iron audio volume and have a quieter experience.
The only prob is just about every Racer 2 I have owned eventually glitches out within a few years. ( lo bat glitch) It starts slow and gets progressivly worse.
I'm really glad Kickndirt suggested the Kruzer he had instead of going forward with the Simplex, as the Kruzer has lots more to offer. Still on an S rod...yay!! and not a straight shaft, performance, good coil selection (small coil(s), and will be my first waterproof machine. It's basically a glorified Racer 2 offering more features etc with selectable freq.
Having only played with the Kruzer in the house as I can't get out yet, I am really starting to warm up to this machine.
Also, another nice factor is that the Kruzer uses the same middle and lower rods as the Racers and CoRe.
The battery thing isn't a big deal as I have come to find out, as they are easy to get to and replace, plus this battery can be easily found doing a quick internet search.
Although a more "digitized" sound, I can learn to get used to that as it does produce a clean tone/sound.
