I miss a good club meeting. If nothing else, it inspired me to go hunting some more, or new places to hunt. I belonged to a couple in the Bay Area when I lived down there. They were quite active and had knowledgable guest speakers, including Jimmy "Sierra".
After moving to Oregon in 1990, I found the Oregon Treasure Trails Society. Seemed like a good bunch. I met Monte there for the first time, and he showed me that my White's Surf PI couldn't detect a gold ring! Ugh

The glory years were when Monte was the president. I remember one year he called for a breakfast on a Saturday. My wife and I attended, and to my surprise, so did all the other 30 some members that signed up - there wasn't an empty seat!
Later I went to a meeting, and it was out of control. The older members simply could not stand any change and were disruptive. I quit going.
The nearest club to me now, still active, is 2-1/2 hrs. round trip. Not very attractive.
