Dirtdigger, did you buy this MX5

'brand new' from a dealer from fresh or current stock? Did you buy this MX5 as a used model? That could make a difference.

If it is new, fresh stock, and has been very friendly with and hanging out around an MX Sport to catch something contagious grinning smiley then it has an (unknown to many) glitch and needs service.

If you bought a used MX5, it is possible you got a hold of one of the first release models that had the problem of the added resistor that was causing similar audio and tone problems with those early release production units. You're not far from the factory and I'd suggest a drive down to have them take care of it.
