Detectors and search coils ... they all have a purpose,.

Sometimes the detector user doesn't quote understand how search coils work and their strengths and limitations, of which they all have. Often there can be troubles with overall performance if the detector and coil are not working in harmony.

On several forums a couple of users make mention on using this combo.
Few users of this combination, really, and RickUK mentioned why in his post. As h said, it make for a rather nose-heavy combination with that coil, and it is not at-its-best for finding small, single coins or other smaller objects. It does help with depth and detection ability if the objects are larger-sized and perhaps a little deeper.

Except for depth and coverage for open areas where trash is not a problem, what other reason would a person use this combo.
I can't think of any other reason. The big and heavy 15" coil can give a little better coverage as well as big-target depth while sacrificing small target performance.

RickUK has an unmodified IDX Pro and it works for him so he might have been fortunate to have a unit that had a functional preset Ground Balance, but coil changes with many detectors can result in a mis-match and need a little GB tweaking to get things working well. My pick would be for a modified IDX Pro so I could quickly adjust the GB as desired.
