Okay, that cleared it up. Yes, the models, like the Tejón and those with the 3¾-turn GB pot can get very touchy to try and Ground Balance, but I prefer them for overall versatility. That especially includes changing search coils. Tesoro models can be a bit persnickety when it comes to swapping search coils because you can often end up with a detector/coil combination that is too negative (which results in a lot of falsing, especially in higher mineralized ground), or too positive (and that can often not sallow detection of a big silver dollar, often a half-dollar, and sometimes so positive even quarters are not detectable). That is why a more versatile/functional preference is a model with manual GB. .... However, ....

Even while the Eldorado has a lot to offer in versatility with the ED-180 Discrimination, it, too, has the touchy GB control.

Therefore, like you, I enjoy having a grab-and-go detector in the Silver Sabre µMAX, but I keep the coil mounted that best suits it for all-around detecting that I usually do (the thin-profile 6" Concentric), and I make sure I 'Power Balance' the internal GB trimmer and tweak it to let the unit be most functional on higher mineralized ground without being too positive or too negative to cause problems in the silent-search Discriminate mode.

In your case, I would mount the Super 7 Inch coil or a white 6" coil as they are both thin and keep the weight and balance easy-to-use, and will work better in the nasty nail and iron areas in most of those old town sites.
