Re: thoughts on DEUS machine

Ya I agree and for the sake of argument, assume each has the same performance. It is some of the above mentioned stuff that made it so I had no interest in the machine. First is the lack of a small coil, so 9" is the "small" coil option. That would be about the same as if you were working a trashy site and using the eclipse 950 coil that came with your MXT Pro...it can work but not very effective. And if you wanted a coil selection ( the 11" and 13" x 11" coils) Well you can purchase those here.......[www.xpmetaldetectorsamericas.com]

So lets say you order your new Deus with the 9" coil.....if you feel you need the other coils you can happily order a new 11" coil at a MSRP of $549.00 or the 13" x 11" coil with a MSRP of $616.00 ( which at those insane cheap prices does not include a coil cover...that's extra. But I imagine you might want one as not to scrub these babies on the ground. Wear the bottom out and you battery spills out on the ground........cost a bunch to get hazmat out to a remote area and clean that mess up LOL)

I seen that XP put out a notice that the newer Version 4 update will also include a few new higher freq coils and address a few bugs the 3.2 version has and they stated also:

"All coils will be supplied with a lithium battery with a higher capacity. The new battery is integrated into the lower stem tube and offer a longer battery life, which is especially useful when searching remote area’s with no available charging facilities."

But alas, since Minelab just recently decided to sue XP.....it might be some time before Version 4, new coils, larger batteries become available. I just don't want to have to worry every time if my battery for a certain part of the machine will get thru the day. And then remember to recharge those batteries every night ( if that option is available) as it is now if my batteries die.....it's like "oh dear" so I have to stop, remove the dust cover off my R2, open the battery door, yank out the old AA's , reach in my pouch and put in 4 new AA's. It does take several minutes, but once done my coil, control housing and headphones are all 100% and I am hunting again smiling smiley

Of all the things Monte has tried to pound in my head.....the one I do remember is "Keep it Simple" for me the R2 or any of the Nokta and Makro machines offer just that, performance and simplicity. I am not saying the Deus isn't a performer. From a lot of folks I have talked to it can be and I feel if they do get their " Battery in the Stem " design that they may be able to offer a smaller coil. I think as now anything smaller than 9" prob wont be large enough to have a battery that will last a decent amount of time. ( or maybe XP just refuses to make a smaller Coil, not sure on this one )

Also if Cindy wants a multi freq machine that you can chose your operating freq, the Nokta Impact will be coming out soon and might be a consideration.

As of today, over 2 feet of snow on the ground, temps are heading to below 0, so maybe this post will fan the flames on this Deus debate and keep it going...............as there isn't really anything else to do, except lively metal detector discussions cool smiley
