Hello all and thank you for your comments.

I have found that the V3i is as complicated or as simple as you want to make it.

I like the ability to customize it to my personal preferences, take for example tones.... I have a single tone selected that is comfortable and easy on my ears and nerves.... No way could I stand the multi tone cacophony that is standard.... I would have thrown the machine off a bridge....LOL

I also like the discrimination flexibility.... I have a program that I set up that uses zero discrimination. In other words I accept all VDI and use tones to discriminate.
Example, If I would normally disc. +25 through +35 I just set those VDIs to 0 tone instead of notching them out.
I still leave all screen VDIs active so I can evaluate a signal but the machine doesn't have to go through all of its computations .... This give me a faster response to the targets and recovery but still allows me to look the target over with the analyzing options since the target is not discriminated out .

I have also found mixed mode stereo to be a great program, took a little getting used to but once I had my tones and volume levels setup it became quite easy to work with.
Once again, when you have the basics set up there is little actually tweaking that needs to be done.

While every aspect of the V is customizable once you have the basics set there are really very few changes you have to make, Get a good ground balance, and set the sensitivity and your off and running... if there is EMI it only takes a minute or two and you can clear that up.

I have made some pretty good finds for as little as I get out.

Bottom line to all this is I guess what works for one isn't necessarily going to work for someone else. we all have to find our own path. I am kind of a tinkerer by nature so the V is comfortable for me. I also have an MXT and an Eagle Spectrum that I bought new back in the early 90s.
The wife has adopted the MXT ....LOL

Anyway happy hunting to all.
