I'm pleased that you're one of the few who really put in the time and have the patience to learn and master the Spectra series. The V3i is definitely not the detector for everyone. angry smiley Can you imagine putting the V3i, even with the best coil for it, the 6½" Concentric, in the hands of OregonGregg and set him out in the middle of Toano or Tecoma? eye popping smiley Give him 10 minutes and he'd take up knitting ... if he lasted 10 minutes. Me? I bet I could go a good 15 or 20 minutes ... at gun point.

Been Relic Hunting those old ghost towns since May 4th of '69 so just over 48 years now and I can attest to the fact that, unless there has been some disturbance to cause coin displacement or covering them up, all those old coins, trade tokens, and other smaller keepers-of-interest are anywhere from surface (like the Barber 50¢ piece you eyeballed) to about 4". 'Depth' is not a matter of need, and with the density of trash it wouldn't be achievable anyway.

You see if you can work some magic with the V3i that will not only get 8-out-of-8 hits on the NBPT using a thin Half-Dime, AND still be useable to work well during a site search. I was surprised that the MX Sport did that well on that test using the aftermarket 7" coil on it. thumbs up

Just make that $1800 V3i do as well as any of my 5 Tesoro's or 6 Nokta's, on the NB as well as in-the-field comparisons, and I'll REALLY be impressed! Not with the V3i, but with the magician who can master it. winking smiley A little over a week and we'll be working some sites as we make our way to the WTHO in Wells, Nevada. If I find any potential hunt locations when I am in Utah this coming week, I'll let you and Gregg know..
