Good report from someone who is in the "I like it." category.

WM6, your results and thoughts about the CZ-3D are a bit 'foreign' from my experiences, perhaps due to the distance between where we live and sites we search. I have given the CZ series a lot of thought through the past decade or two because, as I stated, I had a few CZ-5's and I really liked the performance they gave me for certain types of sites I enjoy searching.

A few times I have spotted really great prices on pristine condition used specimens and came close to snatching another one up ... then I looked at the side of my list of things I didn't like: No variable Discriminate control, unbalanced for my health restrictions, and not enough spread or workable information in the visual Target ID display. Overall, it just isn't a 'comfortable' defector to me, and most sites I hunt have a very dense amount of nails and other ferrous debris, especially rusty tin.

I used the 10½" coil long enough to check it out on a CZ and, if that's what you are using very often, I have to agree it is a weighty package. I only opt for an over-size search coil on some contracted cache searches. Most are handled with a 'standard' size coil, and for all of my day-to-day hunting needs I only use smaller-size coils to a couple of "mid-size" search coils when the debris is mild to moderate and good-target masking isn't an issue.

Fortunately for me, I have a wonderful detector outfit on-hand that fits my light-weight and well-balanced needs and they provide ample in-the-field performance that I want. It appears the Fisher CZ-3D makes that grade in your book and I'm pleased you have one or more detectors to attend to your needs.

I'll close with one other observation. I have spoken with people who have owned a CZ-3D, or some other particular model, and they also were not satisfied with the performance. At a later date they acquired a different specimen of the same model and it worked well for them. Perhaps a glitch in one unit, or a change in the Version of that one model? Kind of like the Teknetics Omega 8000. I owned and enjoyed four different specimens of Version 4, but all of the Ver. 5 and 6 units I have owned or handled just fell short of what my original Omega 8000 provided me. Maybe I had a lemon and you have a well designed and tuned specimen?

All the best of success over there in your search areas.

Monte

Of all the Fishers (CZ5,1236X2, 1266) that I have owned, I liked the 1266 the bestthumbs up
